Pokhara City Exploration

Pokhara, located in the Himalayas, is slightly secluded from the chaotic atmosphere. A sightseeing tour in Pokhara is not just about visiting significant wonders; it is also a way of relaxing and healing your mind throughout your visit as well. The fascinating combination, such as the sacred Taal Barahi Temple with the tranquil Phewa Lake, the mystical Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave with the cascading Davis Falls, the magnificent World Peace Pagoda at the top of the Andu hill, and the Bindhyabasini Temple enthroned on top of a small hill, is alluring for every visitor travelling to Pokhara. Apart from that, the Mahendra Cave rewards you with a thrilling experience as you make your way through the dark and unique way from entry to the exit. Of course, our itinerary included a visit to the Sarangkot hilltop, which provides a stunning view of the sunrise and the mountains. As you wait for the wonderful sunlight to paint the sky with many colours, you can only describe the sensation as you personally experience it.

Yet with the scheduled itinerary lies the beauty of spontaneous moments where you can join the evening time of Lakeside with bright lights, food stalls, restaurants, and the perfect lake view accompanying your time. Even small moments, like sharing your bites and laughing together, become precious with good food and a good place.

Kathmandu’s Cultural and Religious Sites

Kathmandu Valley houses 7 UNESCO listed world heritage sites, out of which you will visit four. The 4 sites in the valley include Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Swayambhunath Stupa. Apart from these, you will also visit Jal Narayan Temple, a sacred holy site. Exploring all these sites is a fascinating journey into the rich cultural, religious, and architectural heritage of Nepal. It is not just a visual feast for you but also an opportunity to connect with the cultural soul of Nepal, experiencing the echoes of its past amidst the vibrant present. The Jal Narayan Temple, also known as Budhanilkantha Temple, is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is around 8 km north of Kathmandu at the base of Shivapuri Hill. The temple is famous for its large, reclining statue of Lord Vishnu resting on a bed of stone serpents in a pool of water. The temple is religiously significant for both Hindus and Buddhists. Unlike other Hindu temples, Budhanilkantha is an open-air shrine offering a unique and serene atmosphere.

Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in the world, attracting visitors for its religious and spiritual significance. Around the base of the stupa, you’ll find 108 small niches housing statues of the Dhyani Buddha Amitabha, representing the different stages of enlightenment. It is a sacred place for both Tibetan Buddhists and locals.

Believed to be the oldest Buddhist shrine in Nepal, the history of the Swayambhunath Stupa dates back 2500 years. Also known as a Monkey temple, it is a hilltop pilgrimage site surrounded by smaller temples, stupas, and monasteries. This site shows the perfect harmony of Hindu and Buddhist religions with the combination of Buddhist stupas and Hindu shrines.

Kathmandu Durbar Square, the ancient site that was once the royal palace of the Malla kings, showcases the city’s rich cultural and architectural heritage. It is surrounded by palaces, temples, courtyards, and statues, with the centerpiece, Hanuman Dhoka, displaying Newari architecture and craftsmanship. Besides that, other heritage sites such as Kumari Ghar (Living Goddess), Kasthamandap, Jagannath Temple, and Taleju Temple make the square attractive. The white washed monument is a classic example of traditional pagoda style architecture, which serves as a symbol of peace and harmony. The Peace Stupa offers breathtaking panoramic views of Phewa Lake, the Annapurna Range, and Pokhara city.

Davis Falls, also known as Patale Chhango, is an amazing waterfall in Pokhara Valley that is nearly 500 feet long and runs 100 feet below ground level. According to local old people, on July 31, 1961, a Swiss couple named Davi went swimming, but the woman drowned in a pit. From that day on, the place was known as Davis Falls.

Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, one of the longest caves in Nepal, is nearly 3 km long. There are some walls dripping water inside the cave, and about 40 metres in, you can see the statue of Lord Shiva. At the end of the cave, you will be mesmerised by the Davis Falls cutting through the cave.
