DAY 1

Lucknow Arrival, Transfer to Nepalgunj.

Your Arrival Time (?) Our office representative will meet and greet you at Lucknow Airport and drive you toward your hotel in Nepalgunj, which takes around 4 hours. And your flight should reach Lucknow before 2 PM. As you reach your hotel, check in and rest for a while.

At. 06:00 PM: We will meet for a trip briefing about your tour program. If you are arriving late, then we will have a briefing the next morning. You can ask all your related questions during the trip briefing meeting.

Note: The visa application procedure is to be completed in Delhi beforehand. We will ask you for the necessary documents to apply for the visa.

DAY 2

Fly to Simikot. (2971 m)

At. 06:00 AM: Early morning after breakfast, our vehicle will pick you up from the hotel to take you to Nepalgunj Airport to catch a morning flight to Simikot. The flight time is about 1 hour. Simikot (2971 m) is the district headquarters of Humla, a mountain district of Nepal. At Simikot you will walk up to your hotel. Once you reach there, you will spend the rest of the day acclimatizing, and if you have a little more time, you will do a short hike around Simikot.

DAY 3

Heli to Hilsa, Drive to Taklakot. (3880 m)

At. 08:00 AM: After breakfast, you will walk from your hotel to Simikot Airport and take a helicopter to Hilsa. It takes 20 minutes of flight time to reach Hilsa. You will see the scenic view of green hills and snow-capped mountains along with the deep river gorge of the River Karnali from the helicopter.

Once you reach Hilsa, after a 30-minute walk from there, you will reach the immigration office and complete your immigration procedures. Our vehicle will be waiting for you on the Tibet side. Then, a 30-minute drive from the border will take you to accomodation at Taklakot/Purang (3880 m).

DAY 4

Acclimatization Day at Taklakot.

This day is designed for rest and acclimatization to adjust to the high altitude, ensuring you are physically prepared for the upcoming trek. Taklakot, also known as Purang town, at an altitude of 3880 m, serves as a great acclimatizing point in this yatra for you. Enjoy a warm breakfast and you can take a leisurely stroll around the Taklakot market. After lunch, you can also walk around nearby areas to familiarize your body with the altitude.

DAY 5

Drive to Lake Mansarovar. (4600 m)

At. 09:00 AM: After breakfast, you’ll drive from Taklakot to the sacred Lake Mansarovar (4650 m), covering approximately 70 KM through the breathtaking Tibetan landscapes. In about a 30-45 minute drive, you slowly approach Lake Mansarovar, where you will also notice Rakshas Taal on the other side.

Upon arrival, marvel at the pristine blue waters of the lake, revered across multiple spiritual traditions, with the majestic Mount Kailash in the backdrop. The rest of the day is yours to explore the surroundings. Overnight at a local guest house.

DAY 6

Drive to Yama Dwara, Trek to Derapuk. (4700 m)

At. 07:00 AM: Today you can perform Puja/Havan at the shore of Lake Manasarovar. After breakfast, drive through Darchen to get to Yama Dwara. Darchen, which is 35 KM from Mansarovar, takes around 1 hour to drive. After reaching Darchen, you will further drive towards Yama Dwar (Tarboche), which is the starting point of Kailash Parikrama. Once you reach, carry your bags and head towards the gate of Yama Dwar. Passing through it is believed to remove your evil deed from the book of judgment, and you will get a place in heaven.

Your 3-day-long trekking journey begins and your stop for today will be at Derapuk, which is about a 10-12 KM trek from Yamadwar. As you walk on, time and again, the north face of Kailash Parbat will keep appearing. Once you reach your accommodation, you can rest your bags and relax. Overnight at a guest house in Derapuk.

Note: If you are not doing Parikrama, then you will be waiting at Darchen till the group returns from Parikrama, with arrangements for accommodation and meals.

Darchen is a small village/town located at an altitude of 4700 m, which is a significant gateway to Kailash Yatra. It is the starting and ending point for the pilgrimage circumambulation (Kora) around Mount Kailash. The village itself is a small but important hub for pilgrims and travellers visiting the region. The vibrant market in this town hosts various restaurants serving basic Tibetan fare, hotels and guesthouses for accommodation, and shops selling supplies for the trek.

Yama Dwar, also known as Tarboche in Tibetan, is a gateway located near Mount Kailash. It literally translates to "Gateway of Death," as "Yam" refers to Yama, the Hindu God of Death, and "Dwar" means gate. It is considered an auspicious place and the main starting point for the spiritual circumambulation (parikrama) around Mount Kailash. Passing through the Yam Dwar signifies leaving behind worldly attachments and joining on a journey of spiritual purification.

DAY 7

Trek to Zuthulphuk. (4800 m)

At. 07:00 AM: After breakfast, you trek to the highest point of the yatra, Dolma La Pass (5600 m) and then descend gradually to Zuthulpuk (4800 m), witnessing the Gauri Kunda on the way. By late afternoon, you will arrive in Zuthulpuk, the cave of miracles. The great ascetic Milerappa is supposed to have performed miracles here. Overnight at the guest house in Zuthulpuk.

Gauri Kunda is a sacred lake located at the foot of Mount Kailash in Tibet at an altitude of approximately 5600 m. It is a revered place in Hinduism and Buddhism where Goddess Parvati used to bathe. It is believed that the waters of the kund are purified by her touch and thus possess immense spiritual power. It can be seen on the way down towards Zuthulpuk.

DAY 8

Zutulpuk to Hilsa or Simikot. (3640 m)

At. 07:00 AM: After an early morning breakfast, you will walk 3 hours to catch the vehicle near Darchen, which will take you to the Nepal border. Our staff will prepare lunch in Darchen (on the way to Hilsa). After lunch, you will continue to drive to the Nepal border, which will take around 2 hours. After completing the immigration procedures to exit Tibet, you will have a short walk towards Hilsa from the border. If you reach early, you’ll be able to catch a helicopter to Simikot; otherwise, you will need to stay in Hilsa overnight.

DAY 9

Fly to Nepalgunj.

At. 07:00 AM: Today, if you stayed in Hilsa, then you have to take an early morning Heli flight to Simikot. Instantly you will catch another flight to Nepalgunj. Our representative will pick you up from Nepalgunj airport and take you to the hotel in Nepalgunj, where you will have lunch and take a rest.

At. 04:00 PM: Later in the evening, you can go for an exploration around the local markets or enjoy the in-house facilities of the hotel and later come back for dinner.

DAY 10

Transfer to Lucknow.

Our vehicle will take you to the Lucknow airport nearly 2 hours before your scheduled flight. The time taken from Nepalgunj to the airport is around 4 hours. So you’ll need to get ready 6 hours ahead of your flight time. We assure you that you will get back to your home with the amazing holy experience of Kailash Mansarovar and Nepal. If anyone would like to go to Muktinath, then the itinerary will be added as per the route.

    Yes, on December 18, 2024, an agreement between China and India enabled the resumption of the Kailash Yatra in 2025, according to MEA, India. For regular updates and more news regarding the Yatra, you can join our WhatsApp group.

  • How do I book this tour?

    STEP 1: Please check the availability of travel dates and seats from our website which is below with the cost table. Or directly contact our travel consultant so we will provide all needful information regarding the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by helicopter. 

    STEP 2: Upon finalizing your dates and other information with our office, please send a scanned copy of your passport via email at kailash@holidaystonepal.com (Please note the passport must be valid for a minimum of 9 months from the date of yatra)

    STEP 3: Now you can confirm your booking, for which we need an advance payment of INR 20,000 per person. Once we receive your booking advance amount, we proceed with your placement in a group, reserve hotels and flights for you, and start your visa documentation processing.

  • What documents are required for this journey as an Indian citizen?

    Indian nationals traveling to Nepal do not require a visa. A valid identity card, such as a voter ID card, is sufficient and accepted by Nepal Immigration to grant permission for travel within Nepal. However, for the China/Tibet portion of the yatra, a valid passport, visa, and a special permit are mandatory. These documents are essential for Indian nationals to enter and travel within the Kailash region, ensuring compliance with Chinese regulations.

  • How is the Tibet visa applied for this tour from Delhi?

    The visa procedures for the Tibetan side are to be completed in Delhi beforehand so that you won't have to wait after you arrive in Nepal. We will require your Passport and a digital copy of the passport-size photo for the visa application. You will have to send the required documents to our representatives in Delhi, India, who will apply for the Tibet visa for you. You will have to send the documents at least 1 month prior to the Yatra start date.

  • How can I go to Kailash Mansarovar from Nepal?

    There are two main ways to get to Kailash Mansarovar from Nepal. They are overland via Gyirong border and by helicopter via Nepalgunj. 

    Overland via Gyirong border: This is a good option if you are looking for a more adventurous trip. The journey from Kathmandu to Kailash is 10 days and you will need to cross the border between Nepal and China at Gyirong Border. 

    The route by helicopter via Nepalgunj: It is the most expensive option, but it is also the fastest way to get to Kailash Mansarovar. The helicopter tour takes about 1 day from Simikot in Nepal to Hilsa in Tibet.

  • What happens in case of bad weather during the flight days?

    In case of weather disruptions, the yatra schedules will be postponed until the weather clears. Once the weather clears, the flights can be fast-forwarded according to their availability, which means one can reach Taklakot from Nepalgunj or vice versa on the same day. 

    Note: The cost of additional days is to be borne by the visitors themselves.

  • Is Kailash Mansarovar Yatra difficult?

    The Yatra involves walking for several days, often in remote terrain and at high altitudes, with its highest altitude of 5600m in Dolma La Pass, which requires a good level of physical fitness and stamina. It can be physically demanding and can lead to altitude sickness and other health challenges for some individuals. However, people of all ages and fitness levels have undertaken it successfully as long as one is in good health and physical fitness before undertaking the journey. Also, proper acclimatisation, physical training, and being aware of one's health condition are crucial for a safe and enjoyable experience.

  • Can a normal person go to Kailash Mansarovar?

    Yes, a normal person can go to Kailash Mansarovar. However, it's essential to understand that the journey to Kailash Mansarovar is considered a challenging pilgrimage due to the high altitude, rugged terrain, and often harsh weather conditions. The trek involves both physical and mental endurance, so it's recommended to be in good health and physically fit before taking the journey.

  • What is the age limit for Kailash Mansarovar?

    The age limit for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra varies depending on the route and the regulations set by the respective government authorities. Generally, the age limit for Kailash Mansarovar is between 18 and 70 years old. There are exceptions for very fit individuals over 70, but it is not guaranteed that a permit will be issued as it depends upon the authority itself.
