Narayanhiti Palace Museum

Narayanhiti palace museum is the most important museum in the history of Nepal. This palace long served as the residence of the reigning Monarch of the Kingdom of Nepal. It is located in Kingsway, near Kaiser Mahal, Thamel. This palace was built by King Mahendra in 1963. The fascinating memorabilia, artwork and mementoes and a lot of information regarding the royal lifestyle, culture and workspace, photographs of meetings with international delegates, and Royal paintings are shown in this museum. This museum carries huge importance in the history of Nepal. This palace was also a place where the black day in the history of Nepal, the Royal Massacre happened in 2058 BS.

Many animal rugs and wall hangings, the location of the Royal massacre of 2001 took place, officials and Royal guests’ pictures are shown and the Royal living standard can be imagined from the things they used, they had, in this palace.  After the establishment of the federal democracy of Nepal, this palace eventually opened for the general public and converted into a museum.

Patan Museum

Patan Museum is situated in Patan Durbar Square courtyard. It is in Lalitpur district of Kathmandu valley. This Museum is safeguarded by Austrian government and Nepal government’s joint collaboration to preserve Patan Durbar Square. This is the first museum in Nepal that has been created as an autonomous institution with its own board of directors. It displays Nepal’s traditional sacred art in a wonderful architectural setting. Nepal’s rare history and cultural values are displayed in this museum. It is located in a superb setting around Patan Durbar Square, in an architectural building in the residential area. To understand about the Nepali architecture, culture, tradition and History, this museum is a great place to visit.

The National Museum

The national museum is a historical symbol of Nepal. This museum is situated in Chhauni, Kathmandu. It is the largest and more than a century-old museum in Nepal. It has an important significance in the sector of archaeology and the development of museums. The historical artworks, sculptures and paintings, murals, weapons, and coins are shown here. It has three main important buildings: Juddha Jayatia Khate Sala, Buddha Art Gallery and the main building in which the natural historical section (collection of species of animals, butterflies and plants), cultural section and philatelic section are located. To understand the Nepalese history, culture and traditions, Flora and Faunas, this museum plays an important role.

Hanumandhoka Museum

Hanumandhoka Durbar Museum is one of the major museums in Kathmandu valley. It is famous for its monuments and historical heritages. This is also situated in the ancient Royal palace of Nepal- Kathmandu Durbar Square. This is located in Hanumandhoka Durbar Herchaha Adda (Hanumandhoka Palace management and conservation office). The historical arts, crafts, and monuments are shown here and this museum is run under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. The beautiful architectural and ancient historical values make it one of the most popular museums in Nepal.

The Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum of Nepal is situated nearby Swayambhunath stupa. Swayambhunath Stupa is also a famous world heritage site situated in Kathmandu valley. This place is famous for culture, religion, and history of Kathmandu valley. It is established under Tribhuvan University’s research department. The main aim of this museum is to collect and preserve floral, faunal, geological and other natural specimens from different parts of Nepal. The research on natural resources, ecology and environment along with documentation of Nepali History is done here. This museum also works for sustainable uses of natural resources. To understand about the Natural phenomenon and natural beauty of Nepal, this museum is currently playing an important role for researchers, students and nature enthusiasts.

Aviation Museum

This museum was recently established in Kathmandu valley. This is Nepal's second Aviation museum, the first is situated in Dhangadhi, far western region of Nepal. This museum is made inside an Airbus 330-300 of Turkish Airlines that only flew for about eight months before suffering a runway excursion at Tribhuvan International Airport in 2015. This Aircraft museum is situated in Sinamangal, near TIA. This museum is an outcome of captain Bed Upreti and CAAN’s joint operation. This museum aims to provide information and knowledge related to the Aviation industry and aircrafts. Also, the history of Nepali Aviation is documented at this museum. This museum is also a great place to visit to understand about the aviation development and aircrafts in the world.

Nepalese Army Military Museum

This museum was established on 28th December 2000 with an aim to provide crucial information on the development of Nepalese military and weapons. The historical collections are shown at this museum. The museum also stands as a public research center, which will be beneficial for researchers, students and scholars. The useful artifacts, documents and materials illustrating the authentic and glorious history of Nepal army are shown. The objects illustrate the sacrifice, dedication and devotion that Nepalese army showed in the history of Nepal.
